Bringing Provence Home: A Natural Calming Room Scent

After my recent horse trail through the lavender fields of Provence, I was enchanted by the scent of the flowers, and the deep sense of calm it brought me. I wanted to bring that peaceful scent back home. This really simple homemade natural reed diffuser does just that.

Here’s how to make your own calming and relaxing room scent, inspired by the lavender fields of Provence.

💜 Simple DIY Calming Reed Diffuser

You’ll need:

  • 30 drops Lavender essential oil (relaxing and floral)
  • 10 drops Bergamot or Lemon essential oil (uplifting and fresh)
  • 2 tbsp Surgical Spirit (available in pharmacies)
  • 2 tbsp Distilled water (or cooled boiled water)
  • A small glass bottle or jar
  • 5–8 rattan reed sticks

Instructions:

  1. Add the essential oils, surgical spirit, and water into your bottle.
  2. Stir gently to combine.
  3. Insert the reeds and let them begin to soak.
  4. Flip the reeds every few days to refresh the scent.

🌱 Tip: Place it in your bathroom, bedroom, or reading nook for an instant lift in mood.

This blend fills the room with a gentle, natural aroma and there's no synthetic chemicals, just the soothing scent of lavender and citrus. I like to buy my essential oils from -Ecodrop.
