Have I Lost the Plot? A Soul Enquiry on Spiritual Awakening

I recently received a soul enquiry from an awakened soul transitioning through their spiritual awakening. Their question? Have I lost the plot?

The Reality of Spiritual Awakening

A spiritual awakening can be a deeply distressing and uncomfortable experience. We often think of spirituality as though it's yoga, incense, positive vibes only and going to church, but an awakening is far from it. In fact, it goes far beyond what is preached in churches and is a whole new level of consciousness that very few can comprehend.

Unless you can speak with someone who has walked the path, someone who affirms you are definitely not delusional or have "lost the plot," it can feel like an overwhelming, lonely and isolating experience whereby you see through all the grand illusions of the world that humanity is tied to.

Awakening feels like an ongoing series of purging and purification, slowly releasing what no longer aligns with you. It will have its joyful highs and intense lows. It can feel lonely and isolating as you shed old identities, relationships, and beliefs that once felt like home to you.

This isn't a path with a clear destination either - it's a continuous unfolding, a spiral that often revisits the same themes at deeper levels. When you think you've cleared something, another layer reveals itself. It can be exhausting, but it's also the inner work. The discomfort isn't a sign you're doing anything wrong; it's the evidence that something very real is happening to you.

When Society Becomes Unbearable

You might feel like you can't blend with society anymore, as you witness how easily people's emotions and minds are manipulated to behave and act upon the narratives they are fed.

The path gets lonelier as you can no longer tolerate conversations related to these emotional dramas, politics and conflicts that keep humanity divided between left and right, each labelling the other wrong for their views.

The good news is you've broken the spell. The bad news is that not many have the eyes to see what you can see, and if you talk about it, you fear being labelled some crazy nut or perhaps locked up and medicated. You may even wish you'd stayed fast asleep; things felt much simpler back then.

A spiritual awakening can feel more like a living nightmare than the joyous positivity it's often depicted to be.

You're In Very Good Company

The mystics knew this path. Jesus spoke of the narrow gate that few would find and warned his followers that the world would hate them for seeing things differently.

Buddha recognised the profound loneliness that comes with awakening, teaching that true freedom only comes when you stop depending on others to understand you.

Rumi felt drawn by strange pulls that others couldn't comprehend, and St. John of the Cross gave us the term "dark night of the soul" - he knew that spiritual awakening often feels like a nightmare before it feels like a joyous blessing.

The apostle Paul was called a fool for his spiritual insights, knowing that what appears as wisdom to awakened consciousness looks like foolishness to the sleeping world.

Throughout history, every genuine spiritual seeker has walked through this painful feeling of isolation, misunderstanding, and the fear of losing their mind. They all questioned their sanity.

You Need to Hear This

You haven't lost the plot - you've found the same path they all did. Keep going, you're definitely moving in the right direction.

This IS the plot, and you're not alone in it.
